Things to Do in Toruń
Toruń, roughly two hours and ten minutes by train from Warsaw, is one of Poland's most photogenic Gothic cities and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The old town along the Vistula — compact enough to walk comfortably in a morning — preserves thirteenth-century brick churches, a ruined Teutonic castle, and the house where Nicolaus Copernicus was born in 1473. Toruń is also the undisputed home of Polish gingerbread: the spiced honey cake has been baked here for over six centuries, and several family bakeries still work from historic recipes.
